| The
Newburyport/Bura Alliance has and continues to
work on a number of projects to benefit both the local
community and the villages of Bura. Click on

done or are continuing to do in a specific area. |

3/20/08 Local
doctors Sue and Glenn Crawford visited the village
after volunteering their surgical skills
in Tanzania. During their homestay in Bura, they were able
to visit and evaluate three local dispensaries, review
the first year's progress of the tree-planting project
at the
Mbagha
Primary school, meet with the Mseto Orphans Group and hear
of their successes in community efforts to help orphans.
The Crawfords
also attended a presentation ceremony and handed out uniforms
to 60 orphans who had previously been
unable to attend school.

The
Uniform Project
Kenyan elementary and secondary schools
are free, but require
students to wear uniforms. Often, orphans' adopted families
cannot afford to provide these in addition to food and
shelter, and without schooling, these children run the
risk of falling into desperate patterns that can result
in acquiring HIV. For only $25, a child can receive
a uniform, a sweater and a backpack, and attend school. |
GN/BA has set the goal of insuring all 400 orphans
in the area have uniforms to attend school. You
can donate to help these children.
